Historical federal sentencing of former sheriff and deputy

DOJ reported former Sheriff Tommy Lee Adams received a 120-month sentence for four firearm felonies and former Deputy Steffanie Kearbey received 60 months for two stolen-firearm felonies. Sentences on each person's counts ran concurrently. The announcement describes earlier misconduct, not acts of the current administration. Outside the current review window; no current check is scored from this event.

County financial audit · March 2026

County financial audit reports historical accounting findings

The county financial audit identified budget compliance, interfund transfer classification and federal-award schedule deficiencies. Its responses describe management plans or assertions; this review did not verify current remedial effectiveness. These countywide fiscal findings are not sustained officer-conduct findings. The audit concerns fiscal 2023.

DPS lists Carter County as a 2025 Blue Shield community. KWOC attributed to Sheriff Bradwell a $50,000 technology grant selection for items including radios and laptops. Grant receipt and expenditures were not independently reviewed. This is program context, not accreditation or a conduct ruling.

Scope and evidence gaps

Official-site maintenance and limited court access prevented a complete records review. Current staffing, reserves, adopted sheriff budget, FBI offense totals, and reporting months remain unverified. The Facebook sample was incomplete and concentrated in one discussion; opinions do not establish misconduct. The PDF preserves all 20 NR explanations, source dates, access gaps, and records still needed.
